Visit the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway

9/11 Memorial, Liberty State Park, Jersey City

The Hudson River Waterfront Walkway is a spectacular pathway on the western shore of the Hudson River in New Jersey. The state has planned the Walkway to exist immediately adjacent to the river in a continuously connected 16 foot wide path from the southern tip of Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge. The Walkway provides free access 24/7 for the enjoyment of the general public.

The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to monitoring the completion and consistent maintenance and upkeep of the 18.5 linear mile plan. Among its goals are the preservation of the scenic values afforded by the Walkway and the implementation of the State rules and regulations concerning the development and use of the Walkway. Consider making a donation today!

Our Priorities:

1) Advocate for the construction and maintenance of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. Part of this advocacy is expressing our opinion on events, policies or obstructions that impact our mission in order to influence the direction and outcome of the cited events.

2) Enforcement of public access along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway

3) Creation of a partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, local municipalities, waterfront property owners and the public in general to foster Walkway use and enjoyment.

4) As part of our partnership with the NJDEP, the Conservancy reviews all Waterfront Development Permit (WDP) applications submitted to the DEP.  The Conservancy provides comments and critique as input to the DEP’s permitting decisions.

We depend on the generosity of people like you.

Oppose building a school in a County park (Braddock/North Hudson Park) in North Bergen, one of nine municipalities along the Walkway

On Tuesday, July 8, there will be a public hearing on the future of James A Braddock Park. For decades, the town of North Bergen has tried to take land in this Hudson County park for local schools. Parks are not for schools. North Bergen has other places to build schools.

Braddock Park is covered by NJ’s Green Acres program that provides open space for residents. This hearing is for NJ DEP to get input from the public on the issue.

Attached is a flyer about the hearing and how you can help. Even if you cannot attend, written comments are encouraged.

Liberty Harbor

Nov 2024. It has come to our attention that the west gate to Jersey Ave is no longer open 24×7. It is closed on weekends and during the non-summertime periods. This is an unfortunate reversal and the Conservancy is trying to work through it with Liberty Harbor’s management.
